My paper Marketplace for Choice and Independence: Young Chinese’s Social Commerce Practices on WeChat is accepted by the Chinese CHI 2020 workshop. It is co-authored with my PhD advisor Dr. Betsy DiSalvo, my colleagues Shengxi Wu and Susan Faulkner. I will be presenting this paper in Hawaii this April.

I’m heading back to China in early August to conduct some fieldwork. I will be going to Beijing first, staying from mid-August until late September, and then getting back to Shenzhen. Got the Graduate Certificate in Science, Technology and Society

Upon my completion of the Social Justice and Design class this Spring, I have gotten the Graduate Certificate in Science, Technology and Society (STS). Since 2016, I have taken four classes in total to get this certificate. It has been such a wonderful journey full of challenges. Now is the time to do something with STS!

My first paper, Goodbye Text, Hello Emoji: Mobile Communication on WeChat in China, is accepted by the 2017 ACM CHI conference on Human Factors in Computing Systems. I will present this paper in Denver this May. I have co-authored another paper, Rice Today, Roti Tomorrow: Diets and Diabetes in Urban Indian Households, and it will be presented by my awesome colleague and friend Jasmine Hentschel. As a fellow for GaTech SLS FEWS program

I was recently nominated by my advisor Prof. Neha Kumar as a fellow for Georgia Tech’s Center for Serve-Learn-Sustain Food, Energy, Water Systems (FEWS) program, and I was formally accepted yesterday (yeah!). I will be granted $1,000 and attending 6 workshops during the second half of this year, to work on projects relevant to FEWS and sustainability. Very excited and cannot wait to meet and collaborate with new people and learn more knowledge!
Idea track runner-up and best poster in Ideas to Serve competition

Our team Eating Right, including Samyukta Sherugar (a first-year Master student in HCI), Tanisha Wagh (a second-year Master student in HCI), Jasmine Hentschel (a design researcher at THRIVE), and myself, won both the Ideas Track Runner Up and Best Poster in 2016 Ideas to Serve (I2S) Competition held by Scheller College of Business at Georgia Tech! Together these two awards worth $2,500! What an encouragement for all of us. 🙂 Special thank to our mentor and advisor Prof. Neha Kumar, who supported us all the way along.

My proposal Agricultural Knowledge Management in Rural China: Learning from Existing Approaches in India was just accepted by Development Consortium under CHI 2016. This proposal was a collaboration with Jasmine Hentschel from University of Michigan and Dr. Neha Kumar, my advisor at Georgia Institute of Technology. This was my first workshop proposal so I was thrilled because of its acceptance! Will be flying to San Jose in May. 😀
